Round 15 GNC report

2013-08-06 08.44.01Round 15 brought up the second Boro Derby up for contention and several teams still trying to secure finals berths.

Team#1 worked hard against league leaders Lakeside 1 and caught them off guard in the first half to have the lead most of the time. Lakeside then stepped up the pressure a notch. With one last momentum shift, Team#1 put together a fantastic comeback in the last quarter to draw level but it wasn’t enough to keep Lakeside completely quiet with the result a 7 goal loss.

Team#2 looking to push hard for finals contention, was put to the test by Diamond Creek. Both teams put on a shooting clinic but Team#2’s defensive work in the last 8 minutes ensured Diamond Creek’s goalers got less of the ball. A very strong finish by Team#2 scoring 11 of the last 13 goals and coming from behind in the last quarter to win by 8 goals. Go Boro !!!

2013-08-06 08.50.12Team#3 surprised competition leaders St Mary’s A with a clean first half and very accurate shooting to hold the lead for the first quarter. But the top team eventually got their act together and slowly took control of the game. Team#3 lost by 15 goals in a commendable effort.

Fighting to stay in touch with the top 4, Team#4 was slow to get going against higher positioned Watsonia B. A resurgence in the third quarter was short lived with too many basic handling errors taking their toll. Team#4 gave it their best shot to lose by 9 goals.

Team#5 and Team#6 played off in the 2nd Boro derby for the season. Both started slowly in very cold conditions. Eventually Team#5 shook off the jitters to take control of the game. Team#5’s strong defensive work prevented Team#6 goalers from getting much of the ball. But to their credit, Team#6 put together a very nice mini-fightback in the third quarter to score some scarce goals and give Team#5 something to think about. A solid 18 goal win for Team#5 giving their finals chances an extra boost. Go Boro !!!
