The Greensborough Netball Club is still welcoming additional players to come on board for the 2016 NNL season.
Our first training session last week had a fantastic attendance by new players varying in ages and returning players that have been with the club for multiple seasons.
We are proud to announce that our Head Coach for the 2016 season is yet again Sharon Ashworth, who in her first season at the club lead our section two team to a Grand Final win in 2014, was the 2015 section two/B grade coach of the NNL representative team (winning their game convincingly over the Southern Football Netball League) and was responsible for our four teams in 2015 alongside our assistant coaches. 2015 saw our section four team win the Grand Final, making two premierships in two years for the club and our section one team making finals for the first time in GNC history as well as our section seven team making finals and just missing out on a grand final appearance by a one goal loss in the semi’s.
Our assistant coaches for 2016 are Lyndal, who led her team to finals appearance in 2015 and returns for another season at our club, Jane who provided assistance in 2015 and new to the club this year is Jenny, who brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the club. Potential additional coaching appointments for 2016 will be announced in due course.
The Greensborough Netball Club (GNC) has been in operation since 2011, has won two premierships to date and is affiliated with the Greensborough Football Club.

In 2016 we expect to field five teams in the upper sections of the Northern Netball League.

Friday night, 11 September saw Greensborough 3 take on Lalor 1 in the section four grand final showdown.
Throughout the season, these teams met twice in the regular season with a win apiece, Lalor finished top and Greensborough second on the ladder, and in the first final, Lalor took the chocolates winning 34 to 17.
Undeterred, Boro had the tough road to make the Grand Final. Taking on the dark horses of section four, Whittlesea 3 in the Preliminary Final, Boro won it’s way through the Grand Final by six goals.
During the Grand Final, Lalor lead all game until the last quarter. The scores at each quarter break:
Quarter time: 8-11 to Lalor
Half time: 14-19 to Lalor
Three quarter time: 22-26 to Lalor
However, the girls kept their heads, kept fighting and winning both the third and fourth quarters to take the game on and win the Grand Final by two goals.
Final score: Greensborough 3 – 31 to Lalor 1 – 29
Best on: Boro’s Thea Nicolaou
A huge thanks goes out to our coaches and players that worked tirelessly throughout the season since February to make it to this point.
