The Greensborough Netball Club (GNC) has been in operation since 2011, has won two premierships to date and is affiliated with the Greensborough Football Club.
We are currently seeking additional enthusiastic and dedicated coaches for the 2016 Northern Netball League season, games are played on Friday nights April to September. We have built a successful netball family culture at Greensborough and we are seeking the right people to fit in with our wonderful club.
We compete in the Northern Netball League which is run on Friday nights April to September of each year and in 2015 the NNL fielded over 60 netball teams in nine sections of quality netball. In 2015 we had four teams competing in sections one, two, four and seven. Three of our teams competed in finals and our section four team won the Grand Final. In 2016 we expect to field five teams in the upper sections of the Northern Netball League.
Training is held on a Wednesday night, 8pm to 9:30pm from the 3rd February 2016 until the completion of the season in September.
All applicants must either hold or be willing to undertake a foundation coaching certificate, a working with children check and a current Netball Victoria Membership.
All applicants must provide two referees in their applications, one of must have been from the most recent coaching or netball related position.
The successful applicants will be required to commit to the following:
Commit to the 2016 season, pre-season training, regular season training, practice matches (2x Melbourne and 1x country Victoria), and all NNL season games
In conjunction with the GNC Head Coach, develop training programs as required and take training for the appointed team
Attend game nights with full responsibility for team performance
Friday night, 11 September saw Greensborough 3 take on Lalor 1 in the section four grand final showdown.
Throughout the season, these teams met twice in the regular season with a win apiece, Lalor finished top and Greensborough second on the ladder, and in the first final, Lalor took the chocolates winning 34 to 17.
Undeterred, Boro had the tough road to make the Grand Final. Taking on the dark horses of section four, Whittlesea 3 in the Preliminary Final, Boro won it’s way through the Grand Final by six goals.
During the Grand Final, Lalor lead all game until the last quarter. The scores at each quarter break:
Quarter time: 8-11 to Lalor
Half time: 14-19 to Lalor
Three quarter time: 22-26 to Lalor
However, the girls kept their heads, kept fighting and winning both the third and fourth quarters to take the game on and win the Grand Final by two goals.
Final score: Greensborough 3 – 31 to Lalor 1 – 29

Last Friday night at Parade College, Greensborough 3 took on Whittlesea 3 in the section four preliminary final and won 34-28 in a tightly contested game.
Boro finished second on the ladder after the completion of the 2015 regular season and Whittlesea finished fourth. The first round of finals saw Boro take on first placed Lalor who proved to be too strong and won the game 34-17. Whittlesea took on third placed Epping and had a strong win, 40 to 25.
This coming Friday night at Parade College, Greensborough 3 takes on Lalor in the Grand Final, our line up:
Congrats to the boys who finished first in the NFL division one seniors, reserves and under 19’s at the completion of their home and away season.
Last Friday saw the netballers finish off the 2015 home and away season and kick off finals for team 4. Boro has never had 75% of our teams make finals before, this is a huge testament to our fantastic players and wonderful coaches. Final standings:
Boro 1 – finished third in section one
Boro 2 – finished sixth in section two
Boro 3 – finished second in section four
Boro 4 – finished second in section seven

Last Wednesday, the Greensborough Netball Club held a Health and Well-being night in place of our usual netball training session.
All Boro players and coaches were asked to make a $5 donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) upon entry and raffle tickets were sold to raise additional funds. All funds that were raised have been donated directly to the NBCF, with the current total at $236 (correct as of 08/07/2015).
The night commenced with a talk on sports nutrition by Boro’s own Team One Captain, Bianca who has recently completed her nutrition studies. Bianca spoke about the importance of fueling your body prior & post games/training, and the right combinations of fuel and hydration.
Boro’s favourite Physio, Julz Allan from Alphington Sports Medicine and the Athlete Advantage was also in attendance, taking each team through crucial exercises for Netball, including core strength, landing and balance drills. Alphington Sports Medicine provides 10% off for all NFL and NNL players as well as a vital concussion service on the weekends.
Ebony Korkie, Boro’s Myotherapist from Untangled Living located at Rivers of Yarrambat, took each team through a session of using foam rollers and the general importance of looking after your body pre & post netball.

Greensborough 1 had a tough game against West Preston Lakeside FC that resulted in a rare section 1 draw at RMIT.
Greensborough 4 played Whittlesea Football & Netball Club at Morang South Primary and after a fairly even first half, stormed home with a solid 31-22 win.
Greensborough 3 played the 9.45pm match against Whittlesea. Last time these teams met the game resulted in a draw – 23 all. In round 7 however, Boro kept working in a higher scoring game and took the win, 33-28.
Greensborough 2 had the bye in round seven.

Boro’s four teams took the court last Friday night at Parade College, RMIT Bundoora and Loyola College for the NNL’s round five.
GNC 1 took on Northcote Park in the section one clash. Northcote Park got the jump on Boro early in the first quarter and were seven goals up at one point. During the second and third quarters Boro worked tirelessly to bring back the score and jumped ahead by the three quarter time break. The last quarter was tightly contested but Boro eventually coming out on top with a two goal thriller.
A new look GNC 2 took on Diamond Creek in the section two clash and had a percentage boosting win by 12 goals at RMIT. Congratulations girls on a solid win!
GNC 4 had an epic game against Epping which ended in a 24 all draw. A great effort by our section seven team with some key position players out with injuries.
GNC 3 faced West Preston Lakeside who after grading came down from section three into section four. GNC 3 to date has had a draw, one goal loss, three goal loss and a three goal win. The first quarter the girls came out of the blocks strongly and played a solid team game full of rebounds, strong passes and accurate shooting. The girls continued to build on their lead throughout the game and at the final siren defeated West Preston Lakeside, 34-19.
The three wins and the draw look to keep all Boro teams firmly cemented in the top four of each of our respective sections.
