2015 Preseason

The 2015 NNL campaign for Greensborough Netball Club officially kicks off next Wednesday night, 4th February with our trials for new players as well as compulsory training for our returning 2014 players.

Please be ready to hit the court at 8pm sharp at St Helena Secondary College, Wallowa Road, Eltham North. Details about 2015 playing and training venues can be viewed here.

All players MUST have completed their online 2015 registration form before taking the court.

Optional preseason training

Netball ringFor any current or new GNC players, optional preseason training will run on the following times and dates.  Please register your attendance via greensboroughnc@gmail.com prior to the session(s) you plan on attending.  All sessions will be held at the Greensborough Football Club, War Memorial Park, Greensborough.  Meet outside the club rooms.

  • 6:30pm to 8pm, Wednesday 8th January
  • 6:30pm to 8pm, Wednesday 15th January
  • 6:30pm to 8pm, Wednesday 22nd January
  • 6:30pm to 8pm, Wednesday 29th January – this session will be ran at another venue TBC

Banyule and Districts Netball Association partners with the Greensborough Netball Club

BDNA logoGNC is proud to announce that the Banyule and Districts Netball Association (BDNA) have formed an allegiance with Greensborough Netball Club that will allow players the opportunity to play in two different competitions held in the Northern Netball League (NNL) and the Premier open division at Parkville.

The partnership was formed with the introduction of coaching personnel that coach at both BDNA and Greensborough Netball Clubs and an agreement with the Presidents of both clubs.

GNC and BDNA Players will gain the opportunity to extend and improve their netball with the exposure of playing in these strong competitions. to play in each others comps and this is a great way of improving the skills and playing in another comp to get the best out of the player with options.

GNC 2014 information night

Team 3 db defenceThe Greensborough Netball Club will be hosting a Club Meeting for all current and future players, officials and coaches to attend.  Details:

6.30pm start, Wednesday 11th December
Greensborough Football Club Rooms
War Memorial Park, corner Mcdowell and Ester Street, Greensborough VIC 3088.

GNC will present the proposed action plan 2014 and will be asking for input, ideas and also more people to join the committee and be part of the netball administration in 2014.

“The aim of the meeting is more of a info night of what 2014 has for us, moving forward to a great future for the club. Fresh New Year!”

The proposed agenda:

  • Executive Committee introduction with the updates for 2014
  • To receive and consider the Statement of Financial position for the year ended 30th September 2013 for the Greensborough Netball Club
  • To elect sub-committee members in accordance with the Greensborough Football Clubs constitution
  • Committee Roles and responsibilities will be handed out before the meeting and also emailed to you prior to the meeting for review
  • New appointed coaches (to date) for 2014 will be introduced
  • Coaches will discuss there 2014 vision
  • Provide details and dates on try outs and how to prepare for them over the summer break

GNC appoints dynamic new Head Coach for season 2014 – Alan Watson

Greensborough NC LogoThe Greensborough Netball Club was established in 2011 and in season 2013, the club had six teams competing in the Northern Football League Netball competition, the most of any netball club.

Greensborough’s strong commitment to its players is exemplified in its excellent program of skill development and in the high quality of the coaching provided for our teams. We are delighted therefore to welcome Alan Watson to the head coaching position.

Alan’s fantastic record of coaching and involvement in sport began in the early 1990s and includes experience in basketball, cricket, football and of course netball. Over the years he has coached a wide range of teams including at senior level for Banyule Open Premier division 3, Diamond Valley U17 and from 2014 as Head Coach for the Lancefield Football Netball Club in the Riddel and districts FNL. In 2011 he was appointed coach for the Victorian Deaf Netball open teams competing in the Australian titles in which they finished in first and second places.

Alan comes to Greensborough very well qualified to take on the role Head Coach. He has completed training qualifications in advanced coaching, courses in umpiring and coaching theory and Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment.

His innovative approach to coaching is designed to assist every individual achieve her personal best and is based on principles of teamwork, mental agility and fitness. ‘I have a whole heap of knowledge and new ideas that I want to bring to the club through my level of coaching’, says Alan. ‘Netball is a great team sport and players share the game with friends and make new ones so I see this as is a very exciting opportunity. The club has a sound structure in place with the number of teams participating. The challenge is to improve the players individually and as teams, to identify and work on areas that players need to improve on. That will mean stronger more competitive teams, working with structures, team systems and set plays.’

With a wealth of experience and a passion for netball, Alan Watson is the ideal person to help us achieve our aim of creating a great future for the club.

Greensborough is currently accepting applications for assistant coaching roles for season 2014. Games are played on Friday nights between April to September, with training conducted between 8pm to 9:30pm on Wednesday nights. Tryouts will occur in early February 2014.
