2014 Head Coaches wrap – GNC team 3, division five

GNC Media ReleaseFrustrating for different reasons as the team gelled late in the year to become a potentially prominent team in the division. Again injuries were a factor with some long term injuries to players and fill in’s having to come into the team to replace key positions.

After a slow beginning to the year the team found its niche and really began to push the top teams, two highlights were a draw with second placed North Heidelberg (with no bench) and a win over third placed Bundoora as our team began to gel. Wins began to flow as we were able to turn the tables in our final game against our Greensborough sisters and recording a win to end the season on a high, only four wins out of finals contention. The team looks to be well placed to continue pushing for a finals berth in season 2015 with some continued hard work over the off season.

After initially starting the season in division four for the first four games, GNC team 3 was regraded into division five for round five. The team finished in 7th place (of nine teams) and played 16 games, five wins, nine losses, two draws and two byes. Of the nine losses, three of those were by under six goals and the two draws were to St Mary’s in division four and second placed North Heidelberg in division five.

I would like to thank the players for their efforts throughout the year as I’ve enjoyed getting to know them better throughout the year.

Good luck girls I had loads of fun.

Alan Watson, Head Coach 2014.

Boro Bits – Round 15

Aussie goldIn a weekend that saw the Aussie Diamonds retain their number 1 World Ranking and winning the Commonwealth Games Gold Medal, Boro had some tough matches to get through with a number of key players unavailable.

Team 1 lined up against the very dominant Fitzroy Stars and came away with a loss, team 2 had a tough match against Lalor and lost by 1 goal in the dying minutes. Team 3 had one last roll of the dice with only 7 players and lost by 6 goals to Mernda, Team 4 had the bye this round and Team 5 had a 26 goal smashing over Hurstbridge.

With only three rounds to go before finals, teams 2, 4 and 5 are in the hunt for September glory.

Boro Bits – Round 14

Netball iStock largeBoro team one, division one update.

The Greensborough Division one netball team this year had a new coach as well as five new players. The first half of the season was really focused on getting to know each other and how we play, as well as our strengths and weaknesses on court. We have won five games and lost eight for the season. Our most recent win however, was 53-38 against Eltham! With a win this coming Friday against Fitzroy Stars, we are still in with a chance to make finals. Our team has really clicked lately so this would seem a fitting reward for all the hard work. Go Boro!!!

Boro Bits – Round 11

GNC team 4 Rd 6Round 11 proved to be a mixed bag, with just two of our teams coming away with a win. Team two had a big win over South Morang and team five came back in the second half to win the game over a tough Keon Park.

At the rounds completion, it’s great to see three out of our five teams in the top four of their respective ladders and also great to see the Footy Club is holding first place on the NFL ladder. We had some really strong games played out this week and we all fought and tried our hardest! Just shows we have the true Boro Spirit.  Team one had a NNL write up this week – click to read.

Boro Bits – Round 9

GNC Team 4 shooterWas great to see the masses of green last Friday with all games at RMIT Bundoora and the girls showing their support to one another.

We had our two division five Boro teams play off against each other which ended up with our team 4 having a great win in the local derby!

Boro teams 2, 4 and 5 are well placed on their respective ladders as we come to the halfway point of the NNL season. Teams 1 and 3 still have a fighting chance but need to get some big wins on the board.
