NFL Netball division 6 grand final

2013 Div 6 GF

Team#5 Grand Final 13/9/2013.

Family, friends and supporters of Boro provided a huge turn out for the big end of season event. After the National Anthem, both team line-ups were introduced to the crowd and then it was down to business.

Team#5 came flying out of the blocks to grab the first 3 goals of the game with ease, but then play became untidy with many passes going astray which let Fitzroy Stars C snatch a 1-goal lead by quarter time. Fitzroy held this momentum through the second quarter with their GA mixing it up and causing a few headaches. Team#5 wasn’t getting the ball past the centre often enough and fell behind by a handful of goals at the major break.

Team 5 2013 GF line upAt halftime, Head Coach Renee let loose with an inspirational and passionate address to the players… the team could play much better, a concerted effort was needed, it was now or never!

Team#5 tackled the third quarter with greater intensity and determination. The effect of Renee’s rev-up was instant with an amazing run of 7 straight unanswered goals. Team#5 had the ball on a string and was able to get within a goal of Fitzroy.

Then the last quarter turned into a titanic struggle with both teams throwing all they could into it. The difference came down to a 3-goal burst by Fitzroy after Team#5 grabbed an early goal. It was essentially goal for goal from that moment until the final siren with Team#5 unable to bridge the gap and losing by just 4 goals, 28-24.

2013 GF team 5 full team and coachesA tremendous game with a close finish.

Players of Team#5 represented Boro with the highest esteem in the Grand Final and for the whole season. Premiers next year! Well done girls, everyone is incredibly proud of you all.

Team 5 compete for the Grand Final honours

Well it’s crunch time now for Boro with Team#5 marching on into the Section 6 Grand Final tonight at 8pm, Parade College v Fitzroy Stars.

Em shootTeam 5 made their way into this weeks grand final with a nervous start in the Preliminary Final against Thomastown B produced many ball handling errors and missed shots. Team 5 trailed by 3 goals during the first quarter, but all players remained focused, lifted their intensity and worked the ball forward cleanly for the rest of the game to eventually win by 12 goals.

Team 2Team 2 sadly bowed out of contention after their valiant effort against quality opposition Whittlesea A in the Section 2 Preliminary Final last Friday night.

Team 2 stayed within a few goals of Whittlesea A up to 3 quarter time, but having thrown everything into it, players were spent in the last quarter and the game drifted out to an 8 goal loss.

GNC Team 2 had a sensational season and really put up a hard fight every round and established themselves as one of the division two top teams to beat.

Last weeks MVP’s were Team 5’s Lisa Crockett and Team 2’s Kristy Crockett.  Congratulations to both!

Want to see the action?  Come down to Parade College at 8pm tonight to see Team 5 battle it out for the ultimate holy grail.

Go Boro!

GNC finals week 1

gnc-premiership-cup13.jpgThe Greensborough Netball Club has 2 teams in the first round of finals.

Team#2 in the Section 2 1st Semi-Final against North Heidelberg B produced a huge 14 goal turnaround from the previous loss, with defensive pressure, offer timing & shooting accuracy greatly improved. These efforts took the team out to a 7 goal lead by halftime and stifled a last ditched effort by North Heidelberg in the final minutes for a well-constructed team effort and a brilliant 5 goal win.

Team#5 in Section 6 2nd Semi-Final against Fitzroy Stars C was slow to react to Fitzroy’s general attack in the first half. Team#5 trailed by as much as 8 goals before getting back to basics and attempting a come back. With a much cleaner last quarter and fewer turnovers, Team#5 closed to within 3 goals but couldn’t sustain the momentum to lose by 5 goals. There’s plenty of scope for improvement and Team#5 will be refocused for the next game.
MVPs:

  • Team#2 – Alison Galloway and Stephanie Hogan
  • Team#5 – Krystal O’Sullivan

Both teams now play in Preliminary Finals this Friday night.  Games:

  • Team 5 v Thomastown, Parade court 1 at 9pm
  • Team 2 v Whittlesea, Parade court 1 at 10pm

Go Boro!

Round 18 GNC report

Team 2Final round of the season and Boro has Team#2 and Team#5 in the finals!

Team#1 put in a tremendous first half to always be within a few goals of major favourite Diamond Creek Red. With no chance of making the finals, Team#1 had a little fun in the second half to see the season out. A great season by the girls which included 5 losses of just 4 goals or less, and finishing 6th. So competitive!

In a pre-view of the 1st semi-final, Team#2 struggled against Whittlesea A with many uncharacteristic bad passes under pressure. Drive forward evaporated after quarter time and disaster struck in the 3rd quarter with Alana suffering a season ending injury. The girls managed to hold it together to come back for a 9 goal loss and will dig deep for the finals re-match. We all wish Alana a speedy recovery for 2014.

Steph flyTeam#3 showed that they are more than capable in Section 3 by defeating 4th placed South Morang Gold in a solid workout. A close encounter, with Team#3 never behind and fighting off South Morang who drew level early in the last quarter to take the win by 5 goals. Go Boro !!! A fantastic season by the girls in Team#3 finishing 5th and several very narrow losses just keeping them out of the finals.

Team 4Team #4 had a bye but also finished 5th on the ladder after some big wins and narrow losses. Nice job girls, unlucky.

Team#5 put their stamp on the competition to finish in 2nd position with a resounding win over Reservoir. After a very slow start, Team#5 slammed on 10 goals to nil in the second quarter to set up a 16 goal win. Finals here we come! Go Boro !!!

Team#6 came up against strong finals contender Watsonia D who weren’t about to muck around. A few too many turnovers didn’t allow Team#6 to get into the game. After joining the comp late so that all Boro players would get solid court time, Team#6 played in many close games with challenging line up changes. Well done girls in a shortened and difficult season.

Round 17 GNC report

Bec shootingRound 17 produced more success for Boro with 3 wins and 2 teams now assured finals appearances. Team#1 played desperate Fitzroy Stars A who are just outside the top 4 and wanting to make the finals. It was a very defensively physical game with both teams shooting accurately around 80%.

Team#1 gave up many turnovers under the pressure & ended with a 16 goal loss.

Team#2, needing just one more win to cement their place at 4th, encountered Laurimer Power who were not going to make it easy. A tough game resulted with the lead changing 4 times and the margin always within a handful of goals. An even game right down to the wire with both teams having 3 goals spurts in the last few minutes. A 1 goal win that ensures Team#2 makes the finals. Go Boro !!!

Team 3Team#3 took the challenge right up to finals contender Thomastown A, with both teams having the lead by no more than a few goals. After losing their way and dropping behind by 11 goals in the 3rd quarter, Team#3 put on a massive fight back until the end of the game to lose by only 3 goals.

For Team#4 it was last game of the season, and the girls went out in style against Montmorency C. They produced a game winning first half and ran riot. Tremendous full court pressure kept producing turnovers and the goalers did the rest. A fabulous 26 goal win to just miss out on the finals (last round is a bye). Well done girls! Go Boro !!!

Team 5 iiA taste of the finals series to come was provided by Team#5 playing against Watsonia D in a showdown to decide 2nd position. Team#5 trounced Watsonia in the 1st quarter but many turnovers for the rest of the game let Watsonia back into it. Team#5 was able to hold enough nerve to see out a 3 goal win and secure 2nd position. Go Boro !!!

Team 6 iiTeam#6 was very competitive against Whittlesea C in the 1st quarter, but lack of defensive pressure let Whittlesea take hold of the game. A very decent effort for a 9 goal loss.

MVPs:

  • Team#1 – Rebecca Nowikow
  • Team#2 – Andrea Casey
  • Team#3 – Georgia Vick
  • Team#4 – Monique Elshaar
  • Team#5 – Lisa Crockett
  • Team#6 – Kim Damon.

Round 16 GNC report

2013-08-06 08.58.42Round 16 provided 3 very nice wins for Boro, and some performances that came so very close too.

Team#1 trailed Northcote Park by a few goals for most of the game with long passing that was easy to pick off. Then Team#1 went back to basics with a short game in the last quarter to storm home with 8 of the last 10 goals and win by 2 in a thriller. Go Boro !!!

Team#2 with hopes of a 3rd position season finish, were challenged by Nth Heidelberg B. Team#2 just didn’t get started with poor passing choices being the main issue. After hanging on to a deficit of several goals until 3-quarter time, Team#2 tapered off to lose by 9 goals.

2013-08-06 08.50.21Team#3 had a slow start for the first quarter against Montmorency B, then put together a strong performance controlling the game with few errors. The team’s hard work was rewarded with a fine exhibition of goaling. A convincing 14 goal win by Team#3. Go Boro !!!

Team#4 needed a win against Lalor Football Club to keep their finals chances alive. It was a very competitive seesawing battle with the lead changing 7 times. Just a handful too many turnovers and lack of defensive pressure in the second quarter was decisive, and Team#4 lost by 2 goal loss after breaking even in the final minutes.

In the hunt for 2nd position, Team#5 was given a big fright by Whittlesea C. After giving up a massive amount of turnovers in the first half, Team#5 put together a second half resurgence playing in front, making strong drives and better communication to create an 8 goal win. Go Boro !!!

2013-08-06 08.58.37Team#6 were very competitive against Thomastown B who are pressing for a finals berth. After an untidy first quarter, Team#6 then picked up their game but without solid defensive pressure were unable to close the gap. A very strong finish with the last 4 goals of the game just wasn’t enough, but this 3 goal loss was a tremendous effort.

MVPs:

  • Team#1 – Tamara Elshaar
  • Team#2 – Kate Booth
  • Team#3 – Erin Robertson
  • Team#4 – Eilish Flagg
  • Team#5 – Kaylee Wellington
  • Team#6 – Jessica Barnes.
